York University Lions men’s swimmer Eric Ginzburg and women’s volleyball player Brooklyn Parliament have been named York athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 18.

Ginzburg, a fly and freestyle swimmer, put on a sterling showing at this weekend’s OUA championships in St. Catharine’s. The Toronto, Ont. native captured four gold medals at the championships, winning the 100m fly on day one by breaking his own OUA record with a time of 52.74 seconds. He earned two more on day two, pacing the 50m fly with a run of 24.09 and the 50m freestyle at 22.43. Then, on the final day, Ginzburg took home the 100m freestyle gold in 49.30. To top it all off, the kinesiology & health science major won the OUA male swimmer of the year, setting an OUA record, breaking six Lions individual and two relay records.

Ginzburg will represent the Lions at the U SPORTS swimming championships in Pointe-Claire, Que., from March 7-9, hosted by the McGill Redbirds.

Parliament, a third-year outside hitter, finished off her graduating season in style, with a game-leading 17 kills in the Lions five-set win over the McMaster Marauders on Friday. The Summerland, B.C. native also put up 12 digs and a pair of assists in the victory. The sociology major finishes her final season with the Lions fifth on the team in kills with 66, and ends her Lions career with 111 in 36 matches.
