LIONS GRAB GRAD GAME VISTORY OVER PLAYOFF-BOUND MARAUDERS TO CLOSE OUT SEASON

The York University Lions women’s volleyball team returned home to Tait McKenzie Centre for their final game of the season, where they will host the McMaster Marauders. Following a challenging loss to the Windsor Lancers last week, resulting in a weekend split, the Lions are determined to secure their sixth win.
 

This match holds special significance for the Lions as it marks the farewell to the graduating members of the team. In a touching tribute, York University brought flowers for the graduates at McMaster and extended heartfelt shout-outs. The graduating Lions had the opportunity to take photos with their families, receiving applause and cheers from the audience in recognition of their contributions to the team. Among the graduates are Brooklyn Parliament, Jordyn Sealock, Alisa Trubyuk, and Jessica Reynolds

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The first set kicked off with a bang as Parliament led the charge for the Lions, followed by Trubyuk with three consecutive kills, keeping the momentum high. York appeared to be in control until McMaster swiftly caught up, earning four consecutive points and taking the lead at 11-10. The Lions, determined for a comeback, surged ahead when Endes delivered a crucial kill, bringing York to 13-12. The set intensified as it reached a tie at 24-24, with Trubyuk securing the final kill. The match remained neck and neck until Endes sealed the deal to clinch the set at 33-31, leading York 1-0 in the overall match.

• The Lions asserted dominance early in the second set, with Sealock initiating York’s momentum with a powerful kill. Endes further propelled York forward with phenomenal back-to-back kills, extending their lead to 9-2. Endes continued to shine with consecutive kills, bolstering her team’s lead to 16-9. York’s momentum persisted as Parliament’s kill extended their advantage to 21-12, McMaster now trailing by 9 points. With a final decisive kill from Trubyuk, York secured the second set 25-16, leading 2-0 in the overall game.

• The third set commenced with Sealock taking the lead for the Lions, yet McMaster continued to dominate throughout. The set began with a back-and-forth exchange, but McMaster steadily gained momentum over York. The Lions called for a timeout when they were behind 3 points, 18-15, in an attempt to regroup. Despite York’s efforts, McMaster maintained their lead, ultimately ending the set 25-19, bringing the game to a score of 2-1.

• As the game progressed into the fourth set, York intensified their comeback efforts to seize the lead. A remarkable kill by Sealock propelled York to 9-8 as the Lions fought tenaciously to maintain their lead. However, the Marauders mounted a comeback towards the end, ultimately clinching the set due to an attack error by Parliament, thus pushing the game into a fifth set with a 2-2 tie in the overall game.

• As the fifth set commenced, York quickly took the lead thanks to Parliament’s kill, bringing the score to 5-2. Despite some back-and-forth play, Endes extended York’s lead to 13-7. Megan McDonald’s kill brought York one point closer to victory, leading at 14-9. With an attack error by McMaster, the York Lions secured the final point, winning the game 15-9, and clinching a 3-2 lead in the overall game.

LOOKING AHEAD:

As the Lions conclude their season with a victory, it’s unfortunate that playoffs are not in the cards for them this time around. However, fans can eagerly anticipate seeing them back in action next season.
