(WOLFVILLE, NS) The Acadia Axewomen scored a straight-sets win over the UNB REDS in Atlantic University Sport women’s volleyball action, Friday night in Wolfville.

While the Axewomen won 3-0, they narrowly took each set, especially after the opening 25-20 win. UNB battled in the next two, with Acadia taking both 25-23.

Alexia Lemay-Evans (Azilda, ON) and Jenna Lake (Conception Bay South, NL) led the Acadia offence, run through Charlotte Dean (Mississauga, ON), with 10 kills apiece. Dean finished with 35 assists.

It was UNB’s Heather Benko (Sechelt, BC) that led the match in kills with 12 and points with 15.

Benko and Lemay-Evans each had three aces for their respective squads.

Setter Catherine Burns (Fredericton, NB) had 24 assists for the REDS.

Both liberos, sitting one-two in the AUS in digs, were named players of the game. UNB’s Jenna Adams (Truro, NS), who leads the conference, finished with a game-high 19, while Rebecca Dorsey (Toronto, ON) had 16 for Acadia.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 1:00pm.
