Another successful weekend of sweeps for the York University Lions men’s volleyball team, they now head to Windsor for their final road weekend of the regular season, to face the Windsor Lancers. Back-to-back weekends the Lions have completed four 3-0 victories over their opponents, and holding the final playoff spot in the OUA, a big playoff push is around the corner.
A road weekend at RMC took place as the Lions faced off against the Paladins on Friday and Saturday evenings. An impressive first set on Friday night, 25-10, was followed up with a set two victory to lead 2-0. In the third set, the Paladins were eager to fight back, but the work of Alex Ko, who led the team with 10 kills, and Robert Kemp’s four digs, alongside setter Jasraj Nijjar’s 20 assists, was a remedy for success to sweep the Paladins on night one, 3-0.
Back on RMC’s home court for Saturday evening, the Lions were met with a little more intensity from the home side. A closer matched game between the two, but still the Lions prevailed in set one, 25-20. Set two was closer with both teams trading points, but York worked their way through to a 25-23 win. Ko and Dennis Cota worked their team to a weekend sweep, but it was not without the defensive efforts of Kemp, who added five digs, to help carry them to the 3-0 victory.
