HAMILTON – Delaney Bourget of the McMaster women’s basketball team and Robbie Fujisawa of the Marauders men’s volleyball team take home 2024’s first Marauder Athlete of the Week honours.
Women’s Basketball – Delaney Bourget
At the first game of the 2024 calendar year, Delaney Bourget impressed for the Marauders. The Sudbury, Ontario local had a season high 13 points in Saturday’s game versus the York Lions, just two points off her career high. She went 5 for 8 from the field and netted two 3-pointers in the Marauders’ 82-74 win. Not only was Bourget a scoring threat but she was also a staple on the defensive side of the ball. The third year Kinesiology student added six rebounds, one block and two steals in her most dominant performance of the season.
Men’s Volleyball – Robbie Fujisawa
Robbie Fujisawa, a fourth-year Kinesiology student, was integral to the Marauders’ back-to-back wins over the Nipissing Lakers. Fujisawa had a season high 56 assists in Friday night’s five set thriller while also recording two service aces, three solo blocks and eight digs. In Saturday night’s rematch, the North York local had another impressive performance, with 36 assists and three digs, propelling the Marauders to a 3-0 sweep of the home Lakers. The veteran setter ranks third in the conference, averaging 8.90 assists per set.
