The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women’s volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to defeat the York Lions 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 15-4) in a five-set thriller on Sunday (Dec. 3) afternoon at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
Outside hitters Julia Murmann and Olivia Zhu led the Blues offence with a game-high 23.5 points and 23 points, respectively. Murmann, recorded 14 kills, eight service aces, one solo block, and one block assist. Zhu scored her points from 11 kills, 11 service aces, and one solo block.
The Blues offence was setup by a trio of setters, Robin Melnick, Jenna Peters, and Anna Arellano. Libero Delaney Watson led the team with 9 digs and 14 assists.
The Lions were led by middle blocker Amarai Endes, who recorded 13 points from 12 kills and two block assists. Outside hitter Brooklyn Parliament finished the match with 11.5 points from five kills, six aces, and one block assist.
The Blues will play host to the TMU Bold in an exhibition match on December 30 at 3 p.m. at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Toronto returns to regular-season action after the holiday break on Thursday, January 4, against the Guelph Gryphons. First serve is set for 6 p.m. The action can be streamed online via OUA.tv.
