Waterloo, Ont – In front of a home opener crowd of over 1000 fans, the Warriors swept the Trent Exalibur 3-0.
It was an impressive performance from the Warriors, who had a fast start in the first set with help from fourth-year outside hitter Jennifer Zhu (Oakville/), who had four consecutive aces to put the Warriors up 10. The Warriors did not look back from there and took the first set 25-10.
The Excalibur had something to prove as they fought hard in the second set, nearly catching the Warriors, but they could not reach the finish line and fell short by 3 points (25-22). The Warriors were unstoppable in the match and quickly won the third set. The Excalibur managed to score only 7 points before the set was over.
Zhu played a crucial role in the team’s victory, contributing nine kills and four service aces, which helped her achieve a season-high score of 13 points.
Setter Sarah Hewer (Whitby/) once again led the Warriors in kill assists, helping out on 21 kills. Vet and outside Avery Kelly (Calgary/) was not far behind Zhu, as she finished the game with eight kills, four aces and a .467 hitting percentage.
The Warriors are all set to face Trent in a rematch at the Carl Totzke Court tomorrow night, with the aim of improving their season record to 2-3.
