German women’s pair Elea Beutel & Clara Dreßen endured and conquered a tough opening day, winning all three match hurdles to secure their spot in the main draw.
After starting with a straight-set win against Singapore, the German duo’s resilience were put to test, as they had to overcome two tiebreakers on Tuesday, including their 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-13) closing victory against compatriots Sophia Neuß & Mareet Maidhoff.
Beutel & Dreßen were down in the final set, but rallied to level the score at 13-13, until a block and an ace sealed their win.
