Cougars fall in three sets to UBC

QUICKLY
The University of Regina’s women’s volleyball team fell in three sets to the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport in Regina.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UBC started up the match with a 25-16 thanks in large part to the hitting of Akash Grewal, who was a perfect 6-for-6 on attacks and also had a service ace in the opening set.
  • The Thunderbirds then broke the second set wide open with a 9-1 run, then cruised to a 25-12 victory to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The Cougars had trouble with the serving of UBC’s Kylee Glanville in the third set. Glanville had all four of her aces in the final set and also had four of her five kills in the third, helping UBC hit .500 as a team while clinching the match by a 25-15 margin.

NOTES

  • Jordy McEachern had a team-leading eight kills for Regina while also collecting five digs and three blocks.
  • Reese Evjen started at outside hitter but moved to libero for the final two sets, finishing with a team-leading six digs and passing 14 serves without surrendering an ace.
  • Claire Sheppard had four kills and tied for the match lead with four blocks.

NEXT UP
In the midst of six consecutive home matches, the Cougars are right back at the CKHS next weekend with matches against Calgary on Friday and Saturday. They’ll then have the following weekend off before finishing the homestand against Trinity Western on Nov. 17 and Nov. 18.
