RECRUIT ANNOUNCEMENT: Women’s volleyball continues to build excitement for 2024-25 with the addition of Keely Lloyd

The Gee-Gees women’s volleyball program is pleased to announce their fourth recruit for the 2024-25 season with the signing of Keely Lloyd.

“Keely is another exciting addition to our 2024-25 recruiting class,” said Gee-Gees head coach, Lionel Woods. “What stuck out first and foremost for us when we first met her was her unbelievable work ethic!”

“As the recruiting process unfolded, we were also drawn to her maturity, passion for volleyball, and how easily she fit in with our players on her official visit.”

Visiting the University of Ottawa solidified the volleyball program and the school as a top choice. Both the academic and volleyball programs stood out to Lloyd, offering her the opportunity to dive into her interests.

“I have always been interested in numerous subjects, mostly revolving around science,” Lloyd explained. “Food and Nutrition sciences allows for me to explore many types of science, then apply it to the real world.”

“The tight knit community and atmosphere really stood out to me when getting to practice with the team and visit campus,” Lloyd said. “I really like that the Gee-Gees program only takes about 14 athletes. It allows for a closer group to connect.”

The Toronto product will join the Gee-Gees roster next fall, joining a group of exciting, energetic recruits for the upcoming season. Lloyd will fill the role of middle blocker as veteran players move on from the program.

“We are graduating two middle players at the of this season, so we are pleased that Keely has shown the physical and personal potential to get up to speed quickly for the university game,” Woods said. “Keely’s heavy arm and potential as a pure blocker will be the first two things that people will notice in our gym.”

Before Lloyd heads to Ottawa, she will be playing for the Scarborough Titans Volleyball Club on the Titans Rogue 18u roster while competing with her high school team, the Malvern Black Knights during the 2023-24 season.

During this time, Lloyd has already been keeping up with the Gee-Gees, even dropping in at their preseason matchup with TMU.

“I’ve been staying up to date through social media, and hopefully will have the opportunity to watch a lot of games in person,” Lloyd said. “I’ll be down in Ottawa for an OVA tournament where I plan on coming to watch the Gee-Gees play.”

The Gee-Gees have jumped right into the regular season, playing tough games with their RSEQ foes early in the year. The team is on the road for a Friday night matchup against McGill.

The Gee-Gees will be back home on Nov. 3 and 5 to welcome the Carabins and the Martlets. Tickets are available at https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets.
