LANGLEY, B.C. – Trinity Western earned a 3-2 (21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 24-26, 15-10) win over UBC Okanagan Saturday at the Langley Events Centre to improve to 1-1 in the Blue Team Cup.
After dropping the first set, the Spartans rallied with a pair of convincing wins in the second and third sets. A tight fourth set saw the UBCO eke out a win to force a tiebreaker before the TWU wrapped things up with a five-point win in the fifth set.
The Spartans are now 2-1 in preseason, with a win over UFV to open their preseason schedule before a loss to UBC in the opener of the Blue Team Cup.
QUOTABLE
Adam Schriemer – TWU Head Coach
“We had a super tentative start. The nice part is that we were able to recover from that. Even in the first set, we were able to keep it close and we built on that in the second and third sets. We had an opportunity to close it late in the fourth, but we flinched when we had the chance to execute late. It’s just the ups and downs of preseason that we need to keep moving through.
“I thought our mindset going into the game and our response to errors were much better than last night. I think we just need to be more consistent with execution, especially when we feel pressure from the other team.”
