Lucy Glen-Carter named Subway AUS Athlete of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Lucy Glen-Carter from the Dalhousie women’s volleyball team and Macauley Carson from the UNB REDS men’s hockey team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Lucy Glen-Carter of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending March 5, 2023.

A physiotherapy student in her fourth year of eligibility from Toronto, Ont., Glen-Carter was named the Subway Championship MVP of the Subway AUS Women’s Volleyball Championship finals hosted by Dalhousie.

In Game 1 against the Acadia Axewomen Thursday night, she had a match-high 25 kills and 16 digs in the Tigers 2-3 loss. She was named Dalhousie’s Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

In Friday night’s Game 2, Glen-Carter added another match-high 27 kills and 18 digs to lead the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Axewomen to tie the best-of-three series at one apiece.

In the deciding Game 3, she managed another match-high 19 kills, plus 16 digs to earn Subway Player of the Game and Championship MVP honours in the Tigers’ 3-2 defeat of Acadia to claim the championship title.

Glen-Carter also earned AUS regular season MVP nods for her efforts on the court this season. The championship win marked the 10th consecutive AUS banner for the Tigers program.

Macauley Carson of the UNB REDS men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending March 5, 2023.

A third-year business student from Midhurst, Ont., Carson played a critical defensive role as UNB eliminated Moncton in the Subway AUS Men’s Hockey Playoffs semifinals.

He was then an offensive force in the opening game of the AUS championship series, against Saint Mary’s, on Sunday.

Carson scored once and assisted on another goal as the REDS beat Saint Mary’s 4-2 in Game 1 of the conference final. He was named Subway Player of the Game in the win.

The REDS look to close out the best-of-three series tonight with puck drop in Game 2 set for 7 p.m. at Saint Mary’s.
