Spartans sweep, end Bobcats season

LANGLEY, B.C. – The Bobcats’ season ended Friday night at the Langley Events Centre after dropping the second quarterfinal match 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-22).

Trinity utilized the pressure from the service line that the team’s reputation is based on all night long in picking up the sweep and advancing to the Canada West semi-finals next weekend.

“It’s always disappointing when you can’t move on but at the end of the day we fought really hard,” says coach Grant Wilson.

“They certainly deserve to win and move on but credit to our guys for not going away and keep fighting and definitely proud of their effort.”

The Bobcats enjoyed another strong start, eventually working to set point in the first at 24-23, but Trinity managed three straight points to take the set 26-24.

After Trinity took an early lead in the second frustrations boiled over for the Bobcats, taking a red card after arguing touch calls.

The Bobcats managed to keep the third close throughout but service pressure from Trinity and missed serves from Brandon were the difference.

After the final whistle and handshakes, the four graduating seniors Max Brook, Bryston Keck, Nigel Tolley and Rylan Metcalf stood at the end line of the court to take stock of the final matches together as Bobcats.

“Memories. Soaking it in. Thinking back and already sharing memories,” said Metcalf.

“Amazing. It’s been quite the ride from highs and lows in my life and highs and lows with my team and I’ll cherish it forever.”
