CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW | SPARTANS LOOKING FOR CANADA WEST THREEPEAT

LANGLEY, B.C. – No. 5-ranked Trinity Western’s sights are set on securing their third consecutive Canada West Championship, and their eighth throughout the program’s highly-esteemed existence.
 
The Spartans open up their run to the Canada West Championship with a quarterfinal match against No. 10-ranked Brandon (13-11). The series is a best-of-three, which starts on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 8:00 p.m. (PT).
 
In a 2022-23 season full of peaks and valleys, the Spartans seem to be returning to full force, winning seven of their last eight games to round off their campaign at 18-6 (22-8 overall). The Spartans trail No. 1-ranked Alberta (22-2) and No. 4-ranked Mount Royal (19-5), occupying the third slot in the conference standings to end the regular season.
 
The Spartans are a hard-hitting side led by Brodie Hofer (Langley, B.C.), Jesse Elser (Calgary), and Henry Rempel (Swift Current, Sask.). Hofer ranks seventh in conference kills per set at 3.63, all while ranking third in hitting percentage, sporting a .392. Elser and Rempel have been strong on the outside as well. Elser, who ranks fourth in hitting percentage in conference play (.366).
 
Rempel has been strong on the right-side of the Spartans attack too, making 3.15 kills per set, which is intertwined with a solid hitting percentage of .334.

TWU’s serving game has also been strong throughout the 2022-23 season as well, with Hofer (0.67/set, 2nd), Jesse Elser (0.40/set, 7th), Rempel (0.38/set, 8th) and Mathias Elser (Calgary) (0.61/set, 3rd) all ranking in the top 10 of the conference’s service ace leaderboard.
