MVB: Huskies win two sets in a row, beat Manitoba 3-1

The first set was controlled by the Huskies from beginning. After giving up the opening point, the Huskies rallied off seven straight. The closest the Bisons would be able to get was within four at 19-15 but the Huskies offense was on a mission, closing out the set 25-18.

The second set saw scoring go back and forth between the two teams through the first thirteen points. Manitoba saw the first three point run of the set, going up 17-14. Although the Huskies offence battled back to 23-21, Manitoba was able to hold on to the set, winning 25-22 and tying the game at one set each. Nicoles Carter led the way with four kills on the right side, while Dueck had the set-ending kill.

The Huskies jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the third set. That lead was squandered when the Bisons went on an 8-2 run to cut the Huskies lead to two. Huskies Head Coach Sean McKay would call a timeout and watched as his team responded, bringing the head and taking the third set 25-20.

The fourth set saw the teams go back and forth, neither really hitting a rhythm, with the Bisons having a slight lead at 9-7. The Huskies would get the first four point run of the set to go up 11-9. With Saskatchewan leading 14-13, they would get another four straight points to put the game in jeopardy for the Bisons at 18-13. The Huskies would put the game away ,scoring seven of the next 11 points to take the match three sets to one.

Eric Ogaranko and Nicoles Carter had 11 kills each in the loss for the Bisons, while Jack Mandryk had 36 assists.
