The Dalhousie Tigers (7-1) were able to grind out a hotly contested match against the UNB Reds (4-4) by a score of 3-1 (22-25, 30-28, 29-27, 25-23) at the MUN Fieldhouse.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and would eventually find themselves ahead by a score of 22-20 late in the set. However, the Reds were able to rally late thanks to a few crucial attacks by Meghan Vaags and Sonya Nielsen. In the following set the Reds seemed well on their way to taking their second consecutive set, holding a 22-20 lead and squandering away multiple set points, but the Tigers would do their best to fight back and stay in the game. The Tigers would tie it up at 28 before eventually taking the 2nd set 30-28. It was more of the same in the 3rd set for the Tigers, they fell behind early and had to scratch and claw their way back into the set, eventually taking another tight set by a score of 29-27. With the Reds on the brink of defeat they put together yet another nearly complete set, holding leads at numerous points but eventually falling in the 4th and final set 25-23.

Lucy Glen-Carter (Toronto, ON) was stellar once again for the Tigers, registering a game-high 18 kills while also contributing significantly on the defensive, ranking 2nd on her team in digs (11). Libero Alessandra Nadalini was also extremely impressive throughout the match, consistently keeping points alive with her great passing, her 23 digs led all players in today’s match.

The duo of Heather Benko and Kindigo Watson proved their worth on the court today, giving the opposing Tigers fits throughout the match. Benko (16) and Watson (15) led the way for the Reds in terms of kills and points. Benko was also super impressive on the defensive end as well, racking up 20 digs to go with her top-tier attacking.

Grace Calnan (Dartmouth, NS) had 6 blocks and 12 points on her way to being named the Subway Player of the Game.

The teams now enter their break for exams and the holidays. The Tigers return to the court on January 13 when they travel to UNB to face the REDS again.
