The York University Lions women’s volleyball team suffered their second defeat of the season after a highly competitive affair away against the unbeaten McMaster Marauders. The game saw the Lions win the first set 26-24, however the Lions were unable to hold off the Marauders and narrowly lost the next three 20-25, 20-25 and 18-25 respectively.
Brooklyn Parliament, Jessica Reynolds and Amari Endes had particularly good performances for York, keeping the game competitive until the end of the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was back and forth with McMaster’s Sullie Sundara keeping the Lions defense alert with her powerful kills. Brooklyn Parliament gave an inspired performance, ultimately getting the set winning point after a brilliant display of volleyball by the lions.
- The second set saw the Lions stumble, with service errors and great athleticism by the McMaster defense making it very difficult for the Lions to climb back into the set after going down early.
- In the third set, the game remained competitive until several service errors and overhit kills caused the lions to lose the third set after a massive kill by Sundara finished the win for the Marauders.
- McMaster took a nine-point lead during the midpoint of the set. The Lions however managed to close that gap back down to a two-point lead before the Marauders found their composure and ended the game with a third straight set at 18-25.
LOOKING AHEAD
York will look to get back to winning ways on Friday, Nov. 18 at 8 pm against the Western Mustangs at Tait McKenzie Centre before returning the next day at 8 pm to face the Mustangs again.
