November 14, 2022 – Canada captured bronze medals in both the men’s and women’s beach volleyball events this weekend at the Cayman Islands tournament, the seventh stage of the NORCECA Beach Tour.
Canadians Amanda Harnett and Marie-Alex Bélanger won the bronze medal contest over Dominicans Bethania Almanzar and Crismil Paniagua 2-0 (21-12, 21-18) on Sunday. This was the second bronze in a row for the Canadian pair and their third bronze of the season. Harnett and Bélanger also won a silver at the tour stop in Managua.
Teegan Van Gunst and Katie Lindstrom of the United States won the women’s gold medal over Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and María González 2-1 (21-19, 13-21, 15-11).
Canadians Molly McBain and Lea Monkhouse, who lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual gold medalists, finished fifth over Yvonne Soler and Sofía Velásquez of El Salvador 2-0 (21-13, 21-17) in their final match on Sunday.
On the men’s side, Canadians Liam Kopp and Arran Chambers won the bronze medal over Criforth Lobo and Daniel Dyner of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-13, 21-12). Ian Satterfield and Jake Urrutia of the United States beat Andy Blanco and Luis García of Guatemala 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) for the men’s title of this seventh stage of the zonal tour.
