Canadian beach volleyball teammates Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes have announced their decision to end their partnership. The pair, who have played together since 2017, have been a dominant force on the international circuit and are among Canada’s most decorated volleyball players.
“We have a lot of respect for each other and are very proud of what we have accomplished as a team over the last five years. As with many long-term beach volleyball partnerships, we have both decided it is time to explore new options in our athletic careers separately,” they said in a mutual statement.
The team made history winning Canada’s first-ever World Championship title in 2019, securing their spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They have reached the Beach Volleyball World Tour podium regularly, including a gold this year at the Jurmala Beach Pro Tour Elite 16 tournament.
Most recently, Pavan and Humana-Paredes repeated their 2018 gold-medal performance, defeating Australia in the finals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
Volleyball Canada CEO and President, Mark Eckert, said: “We have watched Sarah and Melissa with great pride and thank them both for representing the sport and our country so successfully on the world stage. Volleyball Canada wishes them both continued success moving forward.”
No further information is available at this time and any new potential partnerships have yet to be decided. However Pavan did play in an AVP Tournament this past weekend with another partner
“We would like to thank our coach, team staff, sponsors and so many others who have supported our journey to date.”
