SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s volleyball team moved to 11-2 on the season with a convincing three-set win — (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) – over the visiting Regina Cougars at the PAC on the Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court.
It’s been a dominant stretch for the Huskies, who have gathered a big win with a straight-set over the Cougars. The Huskies have now ensured their position to play host to Pool C in the first-round of postseason.
Emily Koshinsky continued a tremendous season for the Huskies, as the fifth-year outside hitter had a game-high 15 kills. Caet McCorkell had 10 of her own, while Mandi Frasier chipped in 8 service kills. The team worked together to secure a total of 42 kills.
For the Cougars, Katie House and Jessica Lerminiaux tied highest number of kills, both receiving 9 kills on a .211 hitting percentage. Regina falls to 4-7 with the defeat, which places them in fourth place in the Canada West east division.
After a close first set of 25-23, Saskatchewan was able to take control of the game.
In the second frame the Huskies led from near start-to-finish, which was capped by Emily Koshinsky’s Service Ace — her second consecutive in the set — to grab control of the match.
The Huskies closed the third-and-final set of the evening in style with a frame of a .350 hitting-percentage, to record the straight-set victory over Regina.
The Huskies are back in action tomorrow at the PAC starting at 3PM, as they go toe-to-toe with their provincial rival Regina Cougars once again. You can catch all the action on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
