Box Score Looking to cap off the first half of the season in style at home, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team was once again hosting the Ryerson Rams.
Coming off a sweep Friday night, the Lakers had their sights set on a fifth win of the semester when the teams hit the court.
And what an effort and victory.
The Lakers wasted no time earning the win, sweeping the Rams in impressive fashion to complete the weekend.
In the opening set, the Lakers wasted little time taking care of business.
Nipissing jumped out to a 12-6 lead early on thanks to solid defence and some clutch shots.
They pushed their lead to 16-9 at the technical timeout and extended their advantage to 20-10 late in the set.
From there, the Lakers outscored Ryerson 5-3 to pick up a dominant 25-13 first set victory.
Nipissing continue their impressive play in the second set, grabbing an early 8-6 lead.
They outscored the Rams 8-2 cruising into the technical timeout and leading 16-8.
There was absolutely no let up by the Lakers as they pushed towards another win, leading 20-12 and secured a convincing 25-14 win to go ahead two sets.
With a chance to put the Rams away, the Lakers didn’t miss a beat and ensured they picked up the sweep by continuing their outstanding run.
The Lakers led 10-5 early and 16-8 at the break, keeping at least a five-point cushion for much of the set, including a late 18-13 advantage.
Despite a bit of a push back from the Rams, the Lakers outscored Ryerson 7-5 down the stretch to earn the win and complete the sweep.
With the win, the Lakers finish the first half of the season 3-1 on home court and 5-1 overall, which has them in first place immediately following their match – with York having the weekend off.
Nipissing is now off until the new year and will be back in action in January.
