The York University Lions women’s volleyball team continued their winning run on Friday evening, as they hosted the Trent Excalibur and came away with their fourth straight win. The 3-0 win was their second straight set win in a row on home court.

The win improves their record to 7-1, as they successfully protect first place in the OUA East division, as they near the playoffs with four games remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • York came out swinging as they took an 8-3 lead early in the first set to force a Trent timeout. The lions continue to find unprotected spaces in the opposition’s end to win the set by 25-14.
  • The second set also went in York’s favour, as the Lions picked up five points with Chiara Da Silva behind the service line to go up 6-1 early in the set. With the strong lead, the Lions take advantage and go on to take the second set 25-14.
  • The Lions didn’t let up in the third and took a commanding 10-0 lead. However, the Excalibur did not back down, as they made a valiant effort to claw their way back into the match, trimming the lead down to 12-14.
  • Nonetheless, the Lions fought their way past the Excalibur to win the set 25-16.
