The York University Lions men’s volleyball team is heading on the road to London to take on the Western Mustangs in a two-game weekend away. Earning their first win of the season against the McMaster Marauders last weekend, the Lions are eager to keep the ball rolling and tally two more wins on the road.
On Saturday evening the Lions set up and welcomed in the McMaster Marauders for a highly contested game. The game was tight through each set with York stealing the first set after being down 20-17, before fighting back to tie the set at 21, and going on a five point run to secure the first off a Dennis Cota kill. The second set was just as tight as the first, but the Marauders got a late set lead to tie the game. York came out with a point to prove in the third, taking an 8-1 lead from the get go, solidifying a 25-12 third set win. The tables turned for the fourth, all working in favour of McMaster who won the set 25-13. Alex Ko was the leading Lion in the final set after York went down 12-11, Ko snagged three points with a match-winning ace for the Lions first victory of the year 3-2.

#11 MARTIN PRINSLOO: Fourth-year outside hitter… Led the Lions in their 3-2 victory of the McMaster Marauders with 14 kills and 2 aces, while adding 5 digs and 2 assists to his night on Nov. 11… Is fourth in the OUA with a .355 hitting percentage after the first three games of the season, and is 15th with 2.33 kills per set… Is a veteran player for the Lions and his vision for the game allows the Lions to succeed on the court.
#13 ALEX KO: Second-year outside hitter… Tallied 7 kills, 1 ace and 2 blocks for York on Nov. 11 against the Marauders while leading his squad with 7 digs, and adding 2 assists to his spectacular evening… He is third in the OUA with 107 receptions, and 25th for digs with 17, averaging 1.21 digs per set… In his second season in the red and white, Ko is off to a strong start, looking to best his rookie season numbers.
