BRANDON, MB – The Saskatchewan Huskies fought off an early scare from the Bobcats Friday night to pick up a 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-13) win.
The Bobcats were in control of the first set, jumping to an early lead and taking the first frame. Bobcats outside hitter Keely Anderson had seven kills, two aces and no errors in the first.
The Huskies answered back and took an early 12-7 lead in the second before the Bobcats battled back to tie it 13-13. After a brief back-and-forth the Huskies found a rhythm and ended the set on a 10-2 run.
The Bobcats fought off a set point in the third but it wasn’t enough and the Huskies carried the momentum into the fourth for the match win.
Anderson led all players with 19 kills on the night, with just four errors and 10 digs. Brandon product Camryn Hildebrand impressed in her first start, as the third-year middle finished with a career-high 11 blocks, just two shy of tying the school record.
Averie Allard had a match-high 48 assists in the win. The fourth year setter has had an incredible season for the Huskies. Friday night was her second best game of the season, with her season high 51 assists coming back in November against Thompson Rivers.
The Bobcats remain winless on the conference season at 0-19 while the Huskies improve to 8-11. The two teams meet again Saturday to conclude the weekend series, with first serve is set for 5:00 PM. Game can be streamed live on CanadaWest.TV.
