Box Score The Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team did what they had to Saturday afternoon, picking up a clean sweep of the RMC Paladins in their first of two meetings this weekend.
Sunday, as the team honours their senior athletes, Nipissing was looking to make it a perfect weekend at home and earn their third straight win overall.
Thanks to a solid effort for the second straight day against a scrappy opponent, the Lakers came away with a 3-1 win to sweep the weekend showdown with the Paladins.
To get things going, the Lakers jumped out to an early lead of 11-6.
They remained ahead and extended their lead, going up 18-10 before putting the game away, winning 25-15.
In the second, it was a dominant effort, as the Lakers claimed victory to go up 2-0.
They came out flying, leading 16-4 before added to their advantage and building their cushion to 22-5.
From there, they finished things of, winning 25-7.
RMC refused to go away in the third, as they battled and came out strong.
With the scored tied 8-8, RMC went on a 7-3 run to go ahead 15-11.
Nipissing fought back, tying things up 17-17, but the Paladins took over late, earning a 25-18 win to force a fourth set.
In the fourth, with the Lakers up 2-1, Nipissing started off strong, going up 4-0.
They made no mistake wrapping things up in the fourth, closing things out.
The Lakers led 16-8 midway through the game before sealing the win with a 25-12 triumph to take the match.
Amy Connelly led the Lakers with 13 kills, while Shaelyn Francis added 11 in the victory.
The Lakers wrap up the regular season on the road, facing the Trent Excalibur twice next weekend in Peterborough.
