Coming off a solid season and strong performance in the OUA Playoffs, the Nipissing Lakers women’s volleyball team has wasted little time bolstering their lineup.
The Lakers are excited and proud to announce the addition of outside hitter, Maia Peterson, who will join the team for the 2024-25 OUA season.
Making her way to North Bay from the other Bay – Thunder Bay – Peterson join the Lakers coming off a solid career with the Superior North Volleyball Club and St. Ignatius Falcons.
She said Nipissing and the volleyball program checked off all the boxes in terms of what she was looking for at the post-secondary level.
“Nipissing has excellent academic programs and the Lakers women’s volleyball team has great coaching and are a great team,” she said.
Enrolling in the nursing program at Nipissing, Peterson is looking forward to taking the next step in her academic and athletic journey.
She’s hoping to find personal and team success when she arrives in the fall.
“I’m hoping for growth and success,” she stated.
On top of her club and high school teams, Peterson has also suited up for Team Ontario.
She’s earned the Coaches Award, helped the Falcons qualify for OFSAA, as well as earning the Powerhouse award and MVP.
A strong resume is thanks to her style of play, she believes.
“I’m an aggressive and creative player on the court,” she explained.
Lakers head coach Marc LaRochelle likes what Peterson can bring to the team and program and is excited to add some more talent at the outside position.
“I am very happy to welcome Maia to the Lakers family,” LaRochelle said. “What I really appreciate about Maia is her desire and determination to develop and grow her game in a highly competitive environment. Maia is aware that transitioning to the next level is difficult and requires a significant amount of hard work which she is fully committed to doing.
“I am excited to work with Maia and helping her develop in her journey,” LaRochelle added.
