June 25, 2022: Canada’s head coach, Shannon Winzer, has confirmed the roster for week three of Volleyball Nations League, to be held at 7 Chiefs Sportsplex, Tsuut’ina Nation, near Calgary.
The Canadian women’s team has played two of the three weeks of VNL, or eight matches. They have three wins and five losses so far and sit at 11th place in the standings out of 16 teams.
Japan, a team that will also be in Calgary, currently has the best record winning all eight matches, with the U.S. at second with only one loss. In addition to Canada, Japan and the U.S., visiting teams are Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Serbia, and Turkey.

Canada’s roster includes two local athletes, Alexa Gray and Hilary Howe.
“I know there is a big volleyball community here in Calgary and I’m hoping they are able to come out to watch a few games and see what this sport looks like at the highest level,” said Gray, who now plays professional volleyball in Italy, but began playing as a youth in the Calgary area.
“It’s very exciting to watch and be a part of. We will be playing against some the best players in the world, and we will need our home court advantage at every game! We have made big steps as a program the last few years, so we are looking forward to showing that off during these games.”
