Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The first home games of 2023-24 season are ahead for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack women’s volleyball team that is eyeing up their first victory of the campaign.
Taking place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the ‘Pack (0-2) and the Calgary Dinos (0-2) will do battle in the TCC.
The ‘Pack started their season on the road last weekend and fought hard in a pair of losses to the Alberta Pandas. While TRU didn’t pick up a set victory they got to 23 points in multiple sets to push the Pandas.
Calgary meanwhile started their season off with two losses at home. The Dinos, who were picked to finish seventh in the CW Coaches Preseason Poll, lost 3-1 and 3-0 to the MacEwan Griffins.
While the Dinos hold the historical edge between the two programs, TRU was won two of the last three matches the teams have played in Kamloops.
3 Things
1: There will be hot food and a beer garden served up inside the TCC all season long.
2: TRU started their season with winning their first five home games of the year in 2022-23.
3: Friday night is set to be a rowdy one inside the Tournament Capital Centre with over 70 youth volleyball teams in Kamloops for the Jr. Howler Tournament.
By The Numbers
0: A young squad, TRU has no player on their roster above their third year of eligibility.
.680: WolfPack middle Faith Christensen leads the entire conference with a hitting percentage of .680. To put into perspective how dominant she was last weekend, the second-most efficient hitter in the conference has a mark of .431.
3.67: TRU’s second-year libero Olivia Andulajevic is fifth in the conference with 3.67 digs-per-set.
