SASKATOON, Sask. – On the Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex Saturday evening (Nov. 30), the Saskatchewan Huskies suffered a straight sets loss to the U SPORTS No. 5-ranked Thompson Rivers Wolfpack. Set scores were 21-25, 20-25, and 22-25 as the Wolfpack sweep the weekend series in Saskatoon.
With the win, the Wolfpack improve to 8-2 on the season and maintain their grasp on fourth-place in the conference standings. Meanwhile the Huskies fall to 3-7 headed into the break and continue to trail the Regina Cougars for the final playoff position in CanadaWest.
The visiting team was led by Brooklyn Olfert who finished the game as the only member of Thompson Rivers to reach double-digit points, finishing the night with a game-high 17.5 thanks to 14 kills and three service aces.
For the Dogs, it was Keely Anderson who led the way with 12.5 points and 11 kills while Ella Milne followed closely behind with 9.5 points.
After a tightly-contested first set which saw the Dogs come back on a pair of occasions from significant deficits, the Huskies responded well in the second. In a back-and-forth frame, neither team was able to take a significant lead. With Saskatchewan leading 19-17 and momentum seemingly on the home team’s side, TRU’s Madison Maichin tied things up with back-to-back aces, setting up the Wolfpack to close out the set with five straight points.
The third, and ultimately final, set saw the Dogs trail the entire time, with the Wolfpack leading by as many as six on their way to a straight sets victory.
The two teams now head to the winter break at the halfway point of the season and will return to regular season action on January 10 and 11, 2025.
