KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team continues to bolster their program with big-time recruits from Manitoba, after head coach Pat Hennelly announced that Will Soper is set to join the ‘Pack.
Joining Aiden Goetz and Walker Sodaro in the WolfPack’s recruiting class of 2022-23, Soper is a 6-6 outside-hitter that comes to the ‘Pack from Landmark, MB.
Playing volleyball since Grade 7, Soper is a player that has impressed Hennelly with his growth on the floor and has the capacity to continue to get better.
“I like to see a tall, young player like Will develop and feel that growth is a key indicator for success at this level,” said Hennelly. “Will has a lot of potential and I am excited we will get a chance to help Will develop at the U SPORTS level.”
Playing his club volleyball for the Junior Pilots, Soper made a strong first impression on Hennelly when the long-time WolfPack coach watched Soper and his teammates win the Best of the West tournament.
“I have been tracking Will’s progress since a mutual friend of the family Richard Thain contacted me during the Covid year,” said Hennelly. “I was impressed when I watched Will play at the Best of West Tournament in Calgary, he had grown immensely as a player since the video. I was even more impressed when I watched Will play later at Club Nationals in Edmonton.”
Planning on studying Sciences at TRU, Soper will come to Kamloops after going out on top at the high school level. He and his Landmark Collegiate teammates captured the Manitoba ‘AA’ Boys Provincial Title in early December.
“Will is a long 6-6 and has great ball control for a player his size,” said Hennelly on Soper’s game on the court.
