Female Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Erica Bolink – Camosun Chargers
Erica Bolink put together two incredible performances for the Chargers during last weekend’s matchup at the CBC Bearcats. She marked 40 points, with eight aces and 31 kills, while collecting 11 digs and leading her team in serve receive. The Chargers won five of six sets by only two points, as Bolink fired back-to-back aces to win Friday’s first set 29-27, and a match-winning ace to win Friday’s third set 30-28.
Male Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Daniel Mascarenhas – VIU Mariners
Fifth-year middle blocker Daniel Mascarenhas led VIU in almost every possible way this past weekend as the Mariners pulled off two hard fought victories on the road against the Capilano Blues. He was outstanding in both matches with an incredible 35 total offensive points from the middle with 25 kills and an extraordinary nine blocks. His 14 kills on Friday and 11 kills on Saturday were both team highs. He also added 10 digs and an ace over the weekend as the Mariners climbed into second place in the conference.
