Published on

The Warriors women’s volleyball team hosted the 5/4 OUA Play-In game with the winner advancing to the OUA quarter-finals against Brock on Saturday. Waterloo was without their starting setter Katrine Eistrat (Toronto, ON/) who was out of the lineup but rookie setter Alex Sinik (Calgary, AB/) did an outstanding job running the offence, finishing with 32 assists while Sarah Glynn (Fredricton, NB/) did Sarah Glynn (Fredricton, NB/) things with a game high 20 kills in a straight set victory over the Lancers.

Waterloo cruised past the visitor 25-13 in the opening set before Windsor came back with much more fight in the second set but Waterloo ran away with it late to take it 25-22. In the third, Waterloo jumped out to a big 14-8 lead before the Lancers found some momentum of their own to get it back to 14-15. Waterloo came out of the technical timeout up by two and played sideout volleyball for the rest to earn the third set 25-21 and match 3-0.

Glynn’s 20 kills came on 43 attempts while only having four errors while also adding six digs and a block. Karen Fan (Oakville, ON/) also had a strong game with 8.5 points on six kills, one ace and two blocks while leading all players on the defensive side with 11 digs. Mackenzie Vallee (Waterdown, ON/) and Lauren Hebert (Burlington, ON/) rounded out Waterloo’s attack with five and three kills each.

Defensively Vallee had eight digs while Jenna Gravina (Burlington, ON/) and Sinik each had seven.

The Warriors will now turn their focus to a big battle with the undefeated Brock Badgers on Saturday at 4pm with a spot in the OUA semifinals on the line.
