Warriors lose three tight sets in home opener with Mustangs

Waterloo got out front early in every set, but just could not close it out down the stretch.

Men’s volleyball was back on home court for the first time in over 600 days and their first regular season match on the brand new Carl Totzke Court. Western Mustangs made the trip to the PAC to get the OUA season going and came out on top by a score of 3-0. Despite the straight set loss, Waterloo was out front in every set but just could not close it out with scores of 22-25, 23-25, 23-25.

Bennett Newell (Brussels, ON/) and Noel Campfens (Toronto, ON/) led the Warriors attack, each with eight kills while Campfens also had two assists giving him 10 points on the night. Greg Love (Ottawa, ON/) was next with six kills while rookie Fehin Awobodu (Oakville, ON/) put down four. 

At the net Awobodu and Colm Guyn (Lethbridge, AB/) each finished with four blocks, while Guyn collected 32 assists in the loss.

Leading the way for the Mustangs was Jackson Bere who had a game high 13 kills while Amit Sayal put away 10. Setting up the Mustangs attack was Josiah Esau who finished with 34 assists.

Waterloo is back in action this coming weekend with back-to-back home game against Windsor. Both games are set for 8pm and can be seen live on OUA.tv.
