July 28, 2022: Volleyball Canada’s Nicole Ban has been appointed Team Leader of the World ParaVolley (WPV) Coaches Commission, the WPV Board recently announced.
Ban has been the head coach of the Canadian Women’s Sitting Volleyball National Team for seven years, while also serving as the Para Coordinator for the majority of that time. She recently shifted into the coaching role full-time.
“Thank you to WPV and the WPV Board Members for the appointment of Team Leader of the Coaches Commission,” Ban told WPV. “I look forward to working with, and learning from, the elite-level coaches who are current members of the Commission, while also adding new coaches as we continue to develop and improve sitting volleyball across all zones.
“I am passionate about this Commission as coach education and development has the ability to further grow the game worldwide. At the end of the day, sport is about the athletes and with the best possible leaders around them, athletes will continue to thrive and showcase how truly incredible sitting volleyball is.”
Under her leadership, the team qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and finished fourth. Ban has coached volleyball at several universities in Canada and holds a Masters of Coaching Graduate Degree.
“It is a great pleasure to have Nicole Ban join us as Team Leader for the Coaches Commission and I look forward to working closely with her in the Development Department,” said Anton Raimondo, the Development Director of WPV. “Nicole will bring a fresh perspective and impetus to the Commission as we look to further develop our existing coaches and expand the sport with new coaches.”
Ban’s team is currently gearing up for the 2022 World Championships, taking place from November 4-12 in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
