World ParaVolley is deeply saddened by the recent loss of Jouke de Haan, a leading paravolley coach and coach educator in 12 different countries across the world over nearly four decades.
Jouke de Haan coached the national sitting volleyball teams of the Netherlands, Germany and Egypt with great success and was instrumental in the development of the sitting volleyball teams of Rwanda that led to their eventual participation in the Paralympic Games.
World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner OAM, said: “World ParaVolley has been fortunate to have many excellent coaches over the decades, but Jouke de Haan stands out because of his long-term record of successfully coaching sitting volleyball teams at the international level and because many countries benefited from his willingness to offer his experience, expertise and knowledge to up-and-coming coaches. He has been a true “influencer” as a result of his commitment and dedication to ParaVolley.”
In recommending Jouke de Haan for Honorary Life Membership of World ParaVolley, NEVOBO’s President Peter Sprenger said: “The Dutch Volleyball Federation places Jouke de Haan in the top group of successful coaches in the volleyball/paravolley fields and this is testament to his dedication and commitment to the sitting volleyball discipline.”
Last month the World ParaVolley Board of Directors awarded Honorary Life membership to Jouke de Haan – only the fourth person to receive the honour to date, to acknowledge his long-term dedication to the coaches and athletes of sitting volleyball around the world.
World ParaVolley has lost one of its greatest leaders and offers sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
