Updated Return to Volleyball Plan

COVID-19 Update – February 1 Return to Volleyball Plan.

Published on

On January 29 the Province announced that the number of people who can participate in sport without physical distancing has increased from 50 to 60. As a result of this change, we have updated our Return to Volleyball Plan to align with this change. We have also made a few slight wording adjustments for greater clarity.

The most noticeable changes include:

  • The number of people who can participate without physical distancing increases from 50 to 60.
  • Updated wording around mask use:
    • Coaches must wear a mask during competition and training (unless actively involved in a drill).
    • Participants on the bench except for the in-game libero and players substituted by the libero must wear a mask. Players on the bench without a mask must physically distance from the other participants.

The safety of our participants and our community continues to be our highest priority. As you see in our updated Return to Volleyball plan, there are several risk management and safety measures in place and it is of the utmost importance that everyone adheres to those protocols.

Competition Restrictions

The following restrictions will be in place as we begin our competitive season:

  1. Teams must compete within their own age category. For example, 16U girls teams may only play other 16U girls teams.
  2. Each team will compete against a maximum of 8 other teams.
  3. Each team will compete a maximum of 2 times per week.
  4. Teams must track who they have competed and when the competition took place.
  5. Teams must receive written permission from Volleyball Nova Scotia in order to be exempt from any of the above requirements.

Please note that the word “compete” used above refers to everything from joint training, to scrimmages to official matches (with or without referees present).

The intent of the rule is to define and limit the contact each team has with other groups as well as to comply with Provincial Health Restrictions.

Should you have a specific circumstance that affects your ability to comply with any of the above restrictions please contact VNS and request permission. An example might be that:

  • your geographic area has very few teams in your age category and you would like permission to play local teams outside of your age category
    • or
  • your club plans to hold internal competitions and would like permission for the club’s 14U team to compete against the 15U team.

Competition Contacts

In order to help teams connect with each other, we are asking each team to identify a “Competition Contact” whose email address will be featured on a Competition Contact page on our website under the Club Volleyball tab.

The page is intended to connect teams who might be interested in competing with each other. We plan on organizing the page by age category and region to make connecting with teams as simple as possible.

Please take 2 minutes to complete this form identifying your team’s Competition Contact.
