TORONTO – The No. 2 nationally ranked Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team maintained their undefeated season following a four set victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto on Saturday night. Set scores were 25-16, 25-14, 18-25, 25-17.
Brock have been unstoppable this fall, holding a perfect 8-0 regular season record to go alongside an unblemished 15-0 overall record which includes an extensive preseason completed by the Badgers.
With the winter break set to begin Brock women’s volleyball head coach Steve Delaney spoke to the strategy in place to keep the undefeated Badgers motivated and in competition form with the long layover ahead.
“We are going to go out to BC on the 27th of December to train with some of the other top teams in the country, so we don’t have too much time off between competitions,” noted Delaney. “It is about doing all the little things right so it is important we are serious about those to be at our top level next semester. The fact that we have gone undefeated is great for us and we should enjoy that, but all the hard work is still ahead of us in the second half.”
On the court Saturday versus Toronto, Brock setter Sara Rohr had her choice of attackers registering 37 assists, while adding one kill, one ace, and four digs to round out her stat line.
Meanwhile, defensively Brock libero Aleiah Torres surpassed 20 digs for the third time this season finishing the four set match with 25.
A number of strong attackers throughout the match, Sadie Dick led all players with a game-high 16.5 points from 14 kills, two solo blocks and a block assist. Also reaching double-digits for the Badgers, Christina Jovetic tallied 10 points from four kills, four solo blocks, two block assists and one ace. Four more Brock players recorded six or more points in the all-around effort.
Brock will return from the winter break with a home doubleheader versus the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, Jan. 6 and Sunday, Jan. 7 to begin the second half of the OUA season. First serve on the Saturday is set for 1 p.m., while the Sunday will begin at 12 p.m. Tickets for Brock Badgers home games can be purchased at brocku.universitytickets.com, while all matches are also streamed online at OUA.TV.
