Tyra Peters is showing no signs of slowing down after a strong start.
The third-year left side posted 15 kills and then did it again as the Providence University College Pilots won a pair of matches to start 2024 on the right foot.
Peters is the first MCAC female athlete of the week for 2024.
“Tyra has really impressed me from the start of the season. She has always shown a strong offensive game but this year has really taken pride in her backcourt play,” said Pilots coach Kyle Guenther.
“Tyra brings her dynamic attacking skills every night but has now become such a well-rounded volleyball player as she is a threat from the service line, a superb defender and has improved on the block as well.”
Peters started the semester with a four-set win over the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges, recording 15 kills, five aces and seven digs.
Then she led the Pilots (11-0) to another 3-1 win at Assiniboine Community College, making 12 digs to go with 15 kills.
Peters leads the league in kills, kills per set and aces.
The Canadian Mennonite University Blazers beat the Cougars 3-2 and Les Rouges 3-0 to improve to 5-6.
The MCAC women’s futsal season started on Sunday with the Pilots earning a 7-1 win over ACC and a 4-4 draw against USB.
The Brandon University Bobcats and Blazers split their games, and Les Rouges beat the Bobcats 6-5 to tie for first with the Pilots at four points.
The next match day is this Saturday at ACC.
