The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men’s volleyball squad added their second weekend sweep to their season totals on Saturday night, taking care of a winless Trent Excalibur side 3-1 by scores of 30-28, 23-25, 25-18, 25,14.
After leveling the score in the second set, the Excalibur looked primed for another deep run after pushing the Bold to maximum sets on Friday. Fresh off of being bested in a tight second set of action on Saturday, TMU stormed back in the match to take the final two sets and continue the Excalibur’s search for a lucrative first win of the season.
In a similar stance to the way the two players dominated the court last season, TMU’s Alex King and Jacob Walker combined for 34 of the Bold’s 50 kills on the evening with Walker adding a trio of service aces to his name.
The Bold held the Excalibur to just a .176 hitting percentage in the win and tacked on eight service aces to Walker’s three.
TMU were also successful in matching their season-high single-set score for the second-straight night. The Bold took the first set from a relentless Trent group by a 30-28 score on Saturday, less than 24-hours after reaching the 30-point mark in a set during Friday’s 3-2 victory, emphasizing the offensive talent at head coach Niko Rukavina‘s disposal during tense moments on the court.
TMU head into a clash with the McMaster Marauders next Friday on a high and fresh off their sweep of Trent. Coincidently, the Bold’s last weekend sweep in the 2023-24 season came against the RMC Paladins and preceded TMU’s first matchup with the Marauders this year.
The Bold’s next serve flies next Friday at 8:00 p.m.
