The final game of day two saw the host Dalhousie Tigers sweep the UNB REDS 3-0 at the Dalplex on Saturday night.

The Tigers seemed like the more prepared team, jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead off kills from Sarah Dawe (Mount Pearl, NL) and Grace Calnan (Dartmouth, NS). Six attack errors from the REDS helped the Tigers to the technical timeout lead 16-12. A block by Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) and an ace from Dawe helped the Tigers cruise to a 25-16 first set victory.

More errors from UNB helped Dalhousie get out to an 11-3 lead. A pair of kills from Myriam Arseneau (Dieppe, NB) got the Tigers to the technical timeout with a 16-6 lead. The home side continued to roll deep into the second set increasing their lead to 20-7.

Alessandra Nadalini (Bedford, NS) had 10 digs and Brett Bolden (Fredericton, NB) had 9 assists as Dalhousie claimed a 25-14 second set victory.

Isabella Noble (Chester, NS) kicked off the third set with an ace and the Tigers got out to a 4-0 lead. UNB crawled back into the game with aces from Kelsie Dukart (Parkland County, AB) and Kristen Burns (Mississauga, ON) and were only trailing by one point at the technical timeout 16-15 but not much offense from the REDS was provided after that.

A pair of kills from Moore helped extend the Tigers lead to 20-17 forcing REDS coach Richard Schick to take a timeout. A back row kill from Moore gave the home side game point where Kathleen Fougere (Calgary, AB) put the game away as they won the third set 25-20 and the game 3-0. Credit to the REDS as they challenged the Tigers in the final set but were ultimately no match for the #4 nationally ranked home squad.

The player of the game was Tigers Julie Moore who had 10 digs and a 50% hitting percentage on 24 total attacks.

UNB will be in tough again tomorrow when they take on the Saint Mary’s Huskies at 2pm. The Tigers will look to go for a perfect 3-0 record as hosts of the AUS league tournament as they face off against the Acadia Axewomen at 4pm.
