LANGLEY, British Columbia – The Trinity Western Spartans handed out their annual awards at the Spartans Athletic Awards Gala, with three Spartan student-athletes being honoured with the most prestigious award of the night – the Complete Champion Award – during Friday night’s event.
Winning the Complete Champion Award were men’s track and field heptathlete Brandon Gremaud (Kamloops, B.C.), women’s soccer midfielder Sierra Halldorson (Winnipeg, Man.), and men’s rugby flanker Nate Schroeder (West Kelowna, B.C.). The evening-capping Complete Champion Awards are given to senior student-athletes who are “outstanding in athletic achievements, who advance to the edge of their abilities both academically and personally, and who also demonstrate leadership and a desire to grow spiritually.”
The Spartans Athlete of the Year Awards went to women’s soccer defender Tilly James (Vancouver, B.C.) and men’s volleyball outside hitter Henry Rempel (Swift Current, Sask.)
TWU’s Rookie of the Year Awards went to women’s soccer midfielder Laren Spiller (Surrey, B.C.) and men’s volleyball outside hitter Piers de Greeff (Victoria, B.C.)
The Spartans Scholar Athlete Award went to Tilly James and men’s track and field pole vaulter Ben Zubaly (Rathdrum, Idaho).
This year’s Bahta Melles Awards for servant leadership went to women’s rugby prop Danika Dool (Chilliwack, B.C.) and men’s hockey goalie Isaac LaBelle (Saskatoon, Sask.).
The Murray Hall Leadership Legacy Award went to men’s hockey defenseman Jake Jurgeneit (Toronto, Ont.).
The School of Business Spartan Athlete of the Year Awards went to women’s volleyball outside Tamar Bil (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and men’s soccer defender Luca Alberti (Burnaby, B.C.).
The School of Human Kinetics Spartan Athlete of the Year Awards went to women’s basketball guard Kailey Reimer (Abbotsford, B.C.) and men’s rugby Nate Schroeder.
The Aaron Hansen Senior Therapist of the Year Award went to Nick Coulter who worked with the women’s basketball team. The Senior Therapist of the Year Award was named in memory of Aaron Hansen, a therapy alumni who we tragically lost in the fall of 2022.
The Andrew Heming Shield (Strength and Conditioning Intern of the Year Award) went to women’s volleyball outside hitter Kirsten Kampman (Chilliwack, B.C.).
The Female Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award was given to women’s volleyball outside Faye Murray (Winnipeg, Man.),
while the Male Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award went to men’s rugby flanker Genaro Gandolfo (Buenos Aires, Arg.)
The Strength & Conditioning Team of the Year Award was handed out to the women’s rugby team.
