LANGLEY, British Columbia – This Week in Sparta has seven teams in action. Men’s and women’s soccer have a home-and-home series, with the only home games for the Spartans this week. On the road are men’s rugby, women’s basketball, men’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s cross country.  
 
HOME/AWAY 
 
MEN’S SOCCER (5-3-2 CW) 
Friday, October 11 at Fraser Valley Cascades, Abbotsford, B.C.

Saturday, October 12 vs Fraser Valley Cascades, Langley, B.C.

NOTABLE 

  • The Spartans will have their annual home-and-home series with the Fraser Valley Crusades 7-3-2. 
  • Last weekend on the road TWU defeated UBC Okanagan 3-1 and tied the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 0-0 at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C.  
  • The Cascades were 2-0 last weekend, winning against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack 2-0, and the UBC Okanagan Heat 6-0 in Abbotsford, B.C. 
  • The Spartans are currently 19-14-5 lifetime against the Cascades. 
  • In their previous conference meetings last season Trinity Western went 2-0, winning 2-1 in Abbotsford and 5-2 at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C.

  • Third meet of the season for the Spartans 
  • TWU’s Constance Nankivell has won her last two meets at PLU and WWU. 
  • Canada West Championship is October 26 in Camrose, Alta., with U SPORTS Championship November 9 in Kelowna, B.C.

Saturday, October 12 at the Stewart Cup at Calgary, Calgary, Alta.

  • Third meet of the season for the Spartans 
  • Last weekend the men finished 11th at the Bill Roe Classic meet at Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale, Wash.  

MEN’S RUGBY

NOTABLE 

  • The Spartans are currently ranked No. 7 in the National Rugby Rankings,  
  • In their previous meeting this season TWU lost 61-18 to the Thunderbirds. 
  • In their last match, September 28, the Spartans lost 55-10 to the Pacific Pride. 

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

  • The Spartans begin Canada West conference play at the MacEwan Griffins in Edmonton, Alta. on October 18-19.

  • The Spartans are currently 1-1 in preseason nonconference play 
  • This weekend’s game is the first preseason game of the season for the Spartans.  
  • The Spartans open Canada West play at home against the Victoria Vikes on Thursday October 31.  

About Spartan Athletics 
As official members of U SPORTS, the Spartans currently compete in 13 sports in the Canada West conference, including women’s and men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, cross country, and track & field, as well as women’s rugby sevens. TWU also competes as an independent team in men’s rugby, as well as women’s and men’s disc golf. Since TWU entered U SPORTS in 1999, the Spartans have won 13 U SPORTS team championships and 32 Canada West team championships.
