BRANDON, Man. – A 12-kill performance from Kaylee Plouffe (Sherwood Park, Alta.) led No. 1 Trinity Western in a 3-0 victory over Brandon (25-17, 25-12, 25-12) at the Healthy Living Centre on Saturday.
Plouffe also nailed three aces and a block in the victory while TWU (22-2) outside-hitter Kirsten Kampman (Chilliwack, B.C.) also put together a formidable performance, making 13 kills, 13 digs, and three aces in the victory. For the Bobcats (0-24), it was Danielle Dardis leading the way, making five kills and three blocks in the loss.
Plouffe put together a well-rounded night of hitting, putting together a hitting percentage of .458 on 24 attempts. Plouffe made only one error in the victory.
AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans kicked off with a 25-17 victory over the Bobcats in the first set, holding Brandon to a team hitting percentage of .062. The Spartans made 19 kills in the set, ousting six from the Bobcats.
TWU cruised onwards in the second set, beating Brandon 25-12 with five errors committed in the frame.
The Spartans closed out their final regular season match of the 2022-23 season with a 25-17 third-set victory, putting together their most efficient segment of the night at .288.
NOTABLE
The Spartans are 31-6 all-time against the Bobcats, winning 19 straight in the matchup. TWU’s last loss to Brandon came on Feb. 1, 2014.
After Friday’s tally of 12 kills, Kampman’s 13-kill performance on Saturday stands as a new career-high for Kampman. The third-year outside-hitter also made 13 digs, and three aces for career-highs in both categories.
Plouffe’s 12-kill performance also stands as a career-high, besting her previous record of 10, which was set against Saskatchewan on Jan. 14, 2023.
