SASKATOON – No. 1-ranked Trinity Western bounced back with a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-12, 25-16) over Saskatchewan on Saturday at the Physical Activity Complex.
The Spartans (14-2) were lifted by a strong team performance which saw Ansah Odoom (Surrey, B.C.), Maryn Boldon (Okotoks, Alta.), and Kaylee Plouffe (Sherwood Park, Alta.) combine for 36 kills. The Huskies (7-9) could not stick with TWU after upsetting the No. 1 Spartans, being held to a team hitting percentage of .124 in the loss.
TWU hit .419 as a team in the victory, only committing a total of 15 errors in their 14th victory of the season. Plouffe was a major contributor in TWU’s efficient play, posting a hitting percentage of .643. Plouffe’s middle-blocking counterpart, Mikayla Clay [Benterud] (Sherwood Park, Alta.) contributed to TWU’s cause of victory as well, posting seven kills on an uber-efficient .500 herself.
AS IT HAPPENED
The Spartans wasted no time in asserting themselves early in Saturday’s match, jumping to a 25-14 set victory with Odoom contributing seven kills.
TWU took their most dominant set in the second, defeating the Huskies 25-12 in the frame. The Spartans held the Huskies to a hitting percentage of .030 to take the set.
The third and final set saw Saskatchewan put up their strongest fight of the match, but the Spartans managed to keep Saskatchewan at bay, ousting the Huskies 25-16.
NOTABLE
TWU is 36-18 all-time against the Huskies, winning seven of their last 10 matches with Saskatchewan.
This is Plouffe’s second time hitting the 10-kill milestone in a match, doing so on Nov. 4, 2022 against Calgary.
