SPARTAN FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK I OLIVIA HEINEN

Published on

LANGLEY, B.C. – Olivia Heinen (Langley, B.C.) is this week’s Spartan Female Athlete of the Week after a solid weekend of setting in a weekend sweep of UBC Okanagan.

Heinen and the Spartans moved to 9-1 in conference play after sweeping UBCO (6-4) twice over the weekend.

Heinen made quick work of UBCO’s defensive strategies on Friday, tossing out 22 assists on the game. Although the majority of her work was done in distribution, the fourth-year setter made a series of smart offensive plays at the net, finishing the day with five kills on an efficiency of .667. Heinen chipped in with eight digs to finish off a tough, and scrappy UBCO side.

Saturday’s match was not as spectacular of a performance at the net, but a more well-rounded display of setting, and serving. Posting a line of 24 assists and five digs, Heinen threw down two service aces, keeping the visiting Heat guessing the entire time she stood behind the ball.

After two more weekend sweeps to their name, the Spartans are set to take on Thompson Rivers (1-11) on the road on Friday and Saturday.

The Spartans have only surrendered six sets of the 35 they’ve played as a whole throughout the 2021-22 season.
