CCAA Championship Game: Camosun Chargers 3, Humber Hawks 0
The Camosun Chargers successfully defended their title, becoming back-to-back national champions after defeating the host Humber Hawks in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-20).
The Chargers controlled the first set, maintaining a wire-to-wire lead to grab the momentum early. Cam McDonald had a strong first set for Camosun finishing with four points on two kills, one black and an ace.
The second was a tightly contested set, Camosun was able to keep Humber from taking a late lead to grab a commanding 2-0 lead. Eduardo Bida had a team-high four points in the set, coming of two kills and two aces.
Humber fell behind early in the third set giving up four straight points leading to a timeout. As was the case all night the Chargers never let the Hawks back into the set completing the sweep to capture CCAA Gold.
Lucas Maffia was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for Camosun finishing with 21 assists, eight digs, and four kills. Jaskarn Kalsi was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for Humber recording seven kills and one block.
CCAA Bronze Semi-Final: VIU Mariners 3, Fanshawe Falcons 1
In the first of two bronze semi-finals on the day, the VIU Mariners defeated the Fanshawe Falcons in four sets (14-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-18).
The Falcons came out firing in the first on way to a convincing set win. Jayden Crowther was a force for Fanshawe in the set recording six kills and a block.
The second set was a complete reversal as VIU controlled the play from start to finish to tie things up at one set each. Rylan Van Kooten led his team with four kills in the second set.
The Mariners once again took control of the third set, opening up with a 5-0 run to force a timeout. That would prove too much for the Falcons to overcome as they dropped the third.
The fourth was tight early on, but a 12-4 run for VIU in the middle stages blew the set open. The Mariners kept their foot on the gas closing out the set on way to advancing to the bronze medal game.
Van Kooten was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for VIU finishing with eight kills, seven digs, one ace and one block. Crowther was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for Fanshawe recording 13 kill two digs, one assists and one block. Sebastian Lethbridge of the Fanshawe Falcons was named a First-Team Championship All-Star after the game.
CCAA Semi-Final: Camosun Chargers 3, Fanshawe Falcons 1
The Camosun Chargers booked the first of two spots in the National Championship game, defeating the Fanshawe Falcons in four sets (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20).
The Falcons battled their way back to claim the first set after falling behind in the early going. Daniel Ridings was terrific in the first set for Fanshawe, recording 10 points on seven kills, two aces and a block.
Camosun was able to capture a tightly contested second set, thanks to a 4-1 run in the final stages. All-Canadian Eduardo Bida led the offence for the Chargers picking up six points in the second.
It was more of the same in the third with the Falcons hanging around in the set, before a late Chargers run would help them capture the set.
The Chargers would fall behind early in fourth but clawed their way back to close out the match and book their ticket to the National Championship game.
Kristopher La Guardia was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Chargers finishing with nine digs in the match. Ridings was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Falcons recording 17 kills, nine digs, five aces and two blocks.
CCAA Semi-Final: Humber Hawks 3, Volontaires de Sherbrooke 1
The host Humber Hawks will play for the National Championship on home court, after defeating the Volontaires De Sherbrooke in four sets (25-17, 18-25, 25-16, 25-23).
It was a dominant opening set for Humber in front of the home crowd. The Hawks broke away in the back half of the set to take an early lead. Jake Gomes was terrific for Humber in the first putting up six points on three kills, two aces and one block.
The Volontaires were lethal from the service line, helping them to win the set. Sherbrooke finished with nine aces in the second frame alone, tying things up at one set each.
Humber answered back in the third set, grabbing an early lead, and riding it to the 2-1 set lead. Michael McAlpine paced the Hawks offence picking up five points in the set, on four kills and one ace.
Sherbrooke grabbed an early lead in the fourth as they tried to force a fifth set. The Hawks managed to fight their way back into the set tying things up at 19-points. Humber would close out the match taking the fourth as Jaydon Milne scored the final point for the Hawks.
McAlpine was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for Humber finishing with 13 kills, five digs and one ace. Marc-Antoine Durocher was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Volontaires recording 10 kills, four aces and one block.
CCAA Quarter-Final: Fanshawe Falcons 3, Briercrest Clippers 0
The Fanshawe Falcons won the second matchup of the day in straight sets, 25-22, 25-20, and 26-24 over the ACAC Champions, the Briercrest Clippers.
After trailing for the majority of the first set, Fanshawe turned it on at the end of the frame to steal the opening set. Daniel Ridings led the Falcons on offence picking up six kills in the set.
Fanshawe took control of the second set early forcing Briercrest into two quick timeouts with the score at 12-7. The Clippers would get the lead down to just one point, but where never able to overtake the Falcons on way to dropping the second set.
The third and final set was the tightest of the afternoon with the Clippers fighting to stay in the match. The game remained tied all the way up to 24, with Fanshawe closing out the game with the final two points of the match to pick up the victory.
CCAA Player of the Year, Sebastian Lethbridge was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Falcons, finishing with 33 assists, 11 digs, two kills and one ace. Tyson Nachtigall was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for the Clippers recording four kills, four blocks, and three digs.
CCAA Quarter-Final: Humber Hawks 3, Sainte-Anne Dragons 0
The host Humber Hawks kicked off their tournament with an emphatic win, defeating the Sainte-Anne Dragons in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21.
Humber grabbed the momentum right out of the gate as fifth-year setter Jake Gomes picked up four aces in his first trip to the service line, forcing an early Dragons timeout. The Hawks carried that lead throughout the rest of the set taking a, 1-0 lead.
The second set was once again all Humber but this time it was Jaydon Milne who lead the way for his squad. Milne recorded nine points in the set coming off six kills and three aces, as Humber took a commanding 2-0 lead.
The third set was the Dragons best of night with both teams knotted up halfway into the set. Sainte-Anne would come up short however as the Hawks closed out what would be the final set of the match.
Jake Gomes was named the 4imprint Player of the Match for Humber putting up 25 assists, eight aces and two digs. All-Canadian, Alec Cottreau collected the 4imprint Player of the Match honours for the Dragons finishing with six aces, five kills and four digs.
