SHERIDAN HOSTS OCAA WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

OAKVILLE, Ont. – The top eight teams are set to compete for provincial hardware at the 2023 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women’s Volleyball Championship. The event is being hosted by Sheridan College in Oakville, Ont., from Thursday through Saturday.

The host Sheridan Bruins are looking to become the ultimate Cinderella story on home court after winning just three matches during the regular season. But when you host the ball, you get an invite to the ball as the Bruins will get their opportunity for provincial bragging rights.

Invited to the party are five other West Division teams the Bruins know all too well, including the reigning OCAA champion Humber Hawks, Conestoga Condors, Mohawk Mountaineers, Niagara Knights and St. Clair Saints. Along with Humber, Mohawk, Niagara and St. Clair have all reached the OCAA podium at recent OCAA championships, including the Mountaineers winning silver last year.

The two top teams in the East Division will also compete in Oakville, including the reigning OCAA bronze medalist Durham Lords and Seneca Sting. Durham enters the competition having lost just one match during the regular season, and only eight sets total.

A total of eight matches will be played in a span of three days. The OCAA quarter-finals will take place on Thursday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Winning teams will advance to the OCAA semi-finals on Friday, followed by the bronze and gold medal matches on Saturday.

The OCAA champion will advance to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball National Championship, taking place in Nanaimo, B.C., next month.

All games will be webcasted on OCAA Live. Here is a closer look at the match-ups.
