The No. 1 seed Sherbrooke Vert et Or will play for a U SPORTS gold medal after silencing the home crowd and defeating the host Queen’s Gaels 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) Friday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

The Vert et Or controlled the game throughout, winning the first and second set comfortably. The Gaels gave Sherbrooke a challenge in the third set, but the No. 1 seed weathered the storm for the four-point set win and the match.
It was a team effort for Sherbrooke on offence. Julien Vanier led the way with eight kills, while Zachary Hollands finished with seven, Gregoire Mercier-Noe added six, and Yoan David had five in the win. The Vert et Or finished the game with a .333 hitting percentage.
Erik Siksna and Reed Venning led the way for Queen’s in the losing effort, with each chipping in 13 kills.
With the win, Sherbrooke will play in the Championship game of the U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship on Sunday at 7 pm ET, taking on the winner of tonight’s second semifinal between the No. 2 Alberta Golden Bears and No. 6 UBC Thunderbirds.
The Gaels will play for the bronze medal, facing the loser of the Golden Bears vs. Thunderbirds matchup, on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
