Sherbrooke dominant in straight set victory over Windsor, advances to semifinals

HAMILTON (U SPORTS) – Third-year and 2023 U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, Yoan David, led the Sherbrooke Vert & Or to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20) victory in the second quarterfinal in Burridge Gymnasium on Day 1 of the 2023 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship, presented by Mikasa. David, an opposite hitter, recorded 16 kills and seven digs as the Vert & Or earned the victory to advance to Saturday’s national semifinal.

Sherbrooke dominated their match against the Lancers, winning the first two sets by an identical eight points. Windsor battled hard in the third set and kept it close, but the Vert & Or pulled away and took the final set by a 25-20 scoreline.

Second-year setter, Jonathan Portelance, recorded 32 assists and five digs in the victory. The Lancers’ Zach Albert tallied seven kills in the contest.

Sherbrooke, the 2023 RSEQ Champions, recorded a .432 hitting percentage while the Lancers struggled, posting a percentage of -.038.

The win sends the Sherbrooke Vert & Or to semifinal #1 on Saturday, March 18th at 8 p.m. ET where they will face the #1 seed – the Alberta Golden Bears. The Windsor Lancers drop to the consolation bracket and will face a familiar foe in the Toronto Varsity Blues in consolation semifinal #1 at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.
