The Memorial Sea-Hawks (0-6) will look to pick up their first win of the season this weekend when they head to the AUS League Tournament at the University of Dalhousie.
Despite being winless so far on the season, the Sea-Hawks have shown plenty of positive signs that the team is headed in the right direction, if they can put it together this weekend they could surprise some teams. The Sea-Hawks are led by outside-hitter Sarah Trowbridge and opposite-side hitter Cecilie Dumaresque at the offensive end, Trowbridge has a team leading 52 kills, while Dumaresque follows closely behind with 45. On the defensive side of the ball, libero Erin Grabka has been extremely reliable passing the ball, her 75 digs place her in 6th place in the AUS, while the aforementioned Trowbridge has 55. Setter Jenna Poole has been reliable from the setter position for Memorial, her 134 assists rank 4th in the AUS. Sea-Hawks outside-hitter Alyssa Warford believes her team is getting more comfortable with the experience they’ve been gaining against other teams, Warford said “We have more experience with the teams, we are more prepared to face them and we are confident in how we need to perform”. The Sea-Hawks will need their top-players to be at their best if they look to pick up a few victories this weekend.
First up for the Sea-Hawks this weekend is the UNB Reds (4-3), taking place Friday, November 19th at 5:30 PM AT, they played the Reds in a three-game series two weeks ago, with the Sea-Hawks dropping all three matches. The Reds are led by outside-hitter Kristen Burns, who’s 80 kills place her 2nd in the entire AUS, while setter Catherin Burns leads the AUS in assists with 227 and libero Katelyn Chapman holds the league lead in digs with 104.
In the following match, the Sea-Hawks match up against the Acadia Axe-Women (4-1) on Saturday, November 20th at 3:00 PM AT. The Axe-Women are led by one of the premier outside-hitters in the AUS Taylor Collombin, her 82 kills and 4.10 kills per set have her tops in the AUS, and she will likely be the focal point for the Axe-Women’s attack. On the defensive side of the ball, the Axe-Women have been led by libero Rebecca Dorsey, her 87 digs place her 3rd in the entire AUS.
To wrap up their weekend series before the Christmas break, the Sea-Hawks face the Moncton Aigles Bleus (0-5) on Sunday, November 21st at 12:00 PM AT. The two leaders of the offensive end for the Aigles Bleus is Sara Chiasson and Joan Arsenault, Chiasson leads the Aigles Blues in kills with 33, while Arsenault trails closely behind with 31. Aigles Bleus setter Cassidy Martin has been running the offence effectively, her 100 assists place her in 5th place in the AUS.
